accidentally removed standard apps...

hey i accidentally uninstalled all the standard apps on my n900, including the phone app, calendar, photos etc.

My first question is, how do I get them back? I've tried searching and it is only as a last resort I actually registered here to ask.

My second question is how do I get the fb sharing function to work? I tried following the advice with libcurl3, but that was what lead to the uninstalling of everything else.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: accidentally removed standard apps...

When you install stuff with apt-get/aptitude - read what it is trying to tell you. WIth that big dependency problem, I'd reflash...

You could also try to reinstall meta packageif you still have xterm:

#apt-cache search mp-fremantle

it should output something like mp-fremantle-blabla-pr (I got cssu installed, so it is different), then run

#apt-get install <name of that package>

It should ask to remove broken stuff and install old stuff back, but you might end up running out of space it it is going to redownload lots of crap.

Thanks for replying!

i get an error with unmet dependencies, "libcurl3 (=7.18.2-8maeo6+0m5) but 7.25.0-1maemo7 is to be installed"
E: Broken Packages

Would it pay off just to install the CSSU instead? And is there any chance the second question could be solved perhaps by migrating to that as well?

Try to disable all of the extras repositories to first fix the state of the standard applications, then enable other repositories.
Did you try to run HildonApplicationManager, or did you wreck havoc on that as well?

Re: accidentally removed standard apps...

I don't have any app managers and thus I don't have access to repositories outside of xterminal. I do have web access, so if I could fix it by using that it would be great.

I'm sure my data is untouched (even though I don't have an app to actually look through it). Would it be possible to access the file structure still from a windows machine to transfer all the files?

I can't even download stuff from the browser, it says "unable to open, file format not supported" for maemo 5 apps.

Also, whenever I try to apt-get update I get E: method driver apt/methods/https could not be found. Is there any way I could get repository access from xterm?

things got progressively worse now, it tried to reboot by itself, but it can't get back into the OS.

Is there any way I can just recover the files and start over?

Re: accidentally removed standard apps...

If you just flash the firmware fiaso image, your data will not get touched, but your settings, conversations and contacts might get removed. But this might get you on track the fastest.

You could try to download this file http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...+0m5_armel.deb with wget, that is if it is installed at all, to your N900 or to your PC and transfer it to the N900 via USB or microSD card, and install it.
Code:

wget http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/pool/fremantle/free/a/apt/apt-transport-https_0.7.20.2maemo13.1+0m5_armel.deb
dpkg -i apt-transport-https_0.7.20.2maemo13.1+0m5_armel.deb
apt-get update

Post your errors here.

Re: accidentally removed standard apps...

well since it won't let me into anything and just keeps rebooting whenever i turn it on, i don't really think i can get to do anything installing related.
