Finally got N800 to tether through Blackberry 8700g with TMobile
 

I have finally gotten my N800 to get online through 8700g/Tmobile.

After numerous failed attempts using the N800's UI to configure everything, I finally opened up the modem script I got for my MacBook and tried adding the additional AT command found in there, and now it all works! It looks familiar, so I'm sure it's been documented elsewhere on the net, just not for the N800, I think....

Anyway, here's what I did:

1. Pair the phone with the N800, making it a trusted device
2. Go to Control Panel > Connectivity > Connections > New
3. Click Next on the Connection Setup Welcome screen
4. Set the connection name you want, and Connetion type: GPRS, click Next
5. Access point name: wap.voicestream.com, Dial-up number: *99***1#, click Next
6. Click Advanced > Other
7. Supplementary AT commands: AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com", click OK
8. You should now be able to click the Connection icon in the status bar and click Change connection... to switch to your new connection

Note that some internet plans might require internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com as the APN in steps 5 and 6 above.

I will also try with my gf's Pearl 8100/Cingular later and post results.

UPDATE: I am using Cingular's latest 8700 firmware: 4.2.1.96. Tmo is still at 4.1, which does not support DUN at all, so you probably have to upgrade to 4.2 to have a chance of getting all this to work.

Now, I am using suncom. They said that they do not proclude anyone from using the internet through the 8700g. I have the firmware 4.2.1.91 and have DUN available. I have tried this over and over...with no success.

Now, after reading your post, I am interested totry again, but where do you see
"and Connetion type: GPRS" I only see Packet Data, Data Call or WLAN. am I missing something?

I followed your instructions, but get an "internet connection failed" error when I try to connect. The N800 and the 8700g recognize each other, and I can see bluetooth activity on the 8700g when the N800 tries to connect.

On the Blackberry, under Options/Bluetooth/Nokia N800/Device Properties, the only thing listed under Services is OBEX Object Push. I would think DUN should be there, too, no? DUN does show up under the Services under the general Bluetooth Options.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I followed the exact instructions and get a 'Remote Server Error' . I am on T-Mobile with an 4.2.1.96 OS and I also made sure to originate the pairing from the N800, i.e. let the n800 find the BB instead of the other way around. (as mentioned in the instructions). Please help !!!! Should I reflash firmware ? Any suggestions are more than welcomed. Thanks

My company just gave me one of those new-fangled Blackberry Curve 8320s a week ago and for some odd reason the N800 can't "see" it's DUN.
Yes, it's one of those UMA, wi-fi-enabled gizmos and I would have preferred an E90.
The Blackberry lists the following as available bluetooth services:

Headset
Handsfree
Desktop COnnectivity
Wireless Bypass (whatever THAT means!)
Dial-Up Networking
Audio Source
A/V Remote Control Target (works well with my Motorola S9 BT headphones)

It's firmware 4.2.2.171. When I pair it from the N800 it shows up on the BB with just a regular bluetooth icon. When I pair it up from the 8320 itself it shows it with a computer icon. Either way it's done it's listed as just having OBEX Object Push services available on the BB and no services at all on the N800.
I like to get this working to take advantage of the unlimited internet on the work phone (via T-Mobile US).

Still having problems, but made some progress getting past the "Remote Server Error" by rebooting the Curve.

Using: 8300 Curve, 4.2.2.89
My provider: Rogers
AP Name: internet.com
Number: *99***1# (and also tried *99#)
Username/password: both fields left blank. We use Windows Mobile devices at work, and this is what I use to get them online. I have also tried the wapuser1/wap, but same results.
Tried with and without the modem command line mentioned above (changing to internet.com of course).

For me, the antenna symbol will flash for a little while and then give up, no matter what setting changes I make. I can see the blue LED on my Curve blink when it's trying though, so the bluetooth connection is being made.

I found out that once I reboot the Curve, it will actually connect (hold [Alt-RightShift-Del] for one second and make sure you get the hourglass, or do it again), but at this point, the N800 can't lookup any addresses. Now, if I disconnect, I have to reboot the Curve again before I can re-connect.

I am having the same issues as Gossmer..

I only connected 1 time with the Curve 8300 to the N800.. could see an ip address and such.. but could not actually surf.

I am wondering if anyone has had success with pairing a BB Curve with the N800. Is this a firmware issue.. or a device incompatability issue?

Rogers sells the BB Curve device with the DUN option as a selling feature.. so i am not sure it is a "problem" on their end.. I am thinking that the N800 may be the issue.

Currently I have tried every setting availiable.

Tools > Connection manager > Connection manager (toolbar at the top) > Tools > connectivity settings > connections > Rogers internet > Edit

Dial-up number - *99***2# (this one connected 1 time)
user name - wapuser1
Password - wap

Should there be an "AT" in front of the +cdgcont...??

Tried all 6 possible dial up numbers we have listed above from rogers rep.. with variables of using the optional at command and not..

So in my tests I started without an at command and with the 1st shown dialup number.. try to connect.. fail.. add the at command .. try to connect.. fail. Reset with next dialup and followup with at command.

Only the dialup string of *99***2# every connected and provided an ip address.

Can any of you see where we may have gone wrong? I am feeling like a Tard... any help is appreciated.. as many of you are enjoying tethering goodness.. and some of us are still pulling out our hair.

Here's link to Blackberry for BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.108 (Multilanguage). The page is in Spanish, but the firmware is multilanguage, so that means English too. I'm not sure what the update does as far as features, but it might be useful to some of you.

Adding one more successful connection, this one with Tmobile USA from the N800 OS2008 to a BlackBerry 8800 with BB OS 4.2.1.74.

0) pair the bluetooth first of course

-- Connections
1) GPRS
2) wap.voicestream.com
3) *99#
4) <blank username and passwords>
5) Finish

It took be 30 tries with different combinations, but the key for me was the wap.voicestream.com. I found that setting inside the BlackBerry under Options --> Advanced --> Service Book. So if your provider has a different name, see what your blackberry has been set to.

Also, maybe it's obvious, but the various combinations of *99# and *99***1# and *99***2# etc are used if you have more than one connection defined inside your mobile phone. Mine has only the default choice programmed, so I used *99#
