Yes it's very possible.
You might have to recompile the kernel if the device is not support.
Also if it drains a lot of battery, you'll need the 'Y' cable with a 5v input which will charge the phone while providing power to the usb device.

Thank you very much for your responce.

All your suggestions are relevant! Can you guide me or give me some addresses where I could find how to compile the kernel

click edit, and it's at the top.

If you haven't compiled the kernel before, the N900 is not the right place to start :o

Google Maemo Hen you see a long post, read it

It might also help to know what it is you are trying to do.
For example, you are more likely to find that the wifi already in your N900 can do what you want provided you have the right combination of software in it. Also, for an external device, you might actually find that building the driver for the kernel which your N900 runs might be easier and faster than compiling a whole kernel.

Then again, what is it you want to do?

Thank you for your answer. So I would like to use the N900 as a Wifi signal repeater, in order to extend my home network. I would like, for example, to connect to my wireless network with the n900 and share the connection via the USB Wifi stick. You think, it's possible? :)

The N900 already has a WiFi transceiver so it does not need another one to act as a WiFi repeater. It just needs to resend all the packets that it receives. With the right software, I do not see why this should not be doable without special kernels, HENs etc. Unfortunately, I know of no such software but someone else might enlighten us.

However, I am not entirely convinced it is a good idea. I certainly would not want my WiFi repeater come and go, I would prefer it permanently fixed. Using the N900 for that seems like an overkill when you can buy a dedicated device for a few quid/bucks.
