Media Converter - DVD Handling
I am interested in watching movies and TV shows on my Nokia 770, something I haven't tried before.
I have some DVDs (movies and seasons of TV shows) which I would like to rip and watch. I have a Mac and access to a PC. Is Media Converter a good application to use and how would I do it? If not, can you suggest a good application that is efficient for doing this? |
Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
If you're on a Mac you're in luck.
Google for "Instant Handbrake" and use that to rip DVDs directly into MP4 format. For AVI files use iSquint on the Mac to convert them to MP4 (do NOT use H.264!) for use on the N800 or pretty much any other device (PSP, Nokia N95, etc.). |
Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
Thanks. I take it the MPEG 4 format is low enough resolution so that it won't cause problems with the Nokia 770? I have read the 770 is somewhat sensitive to resolution. And the rendered video displays well and plays smoothly?

Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
It does for me. I ripped and watched an entire TV show season this way.

Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
Which version of MPEG-4 should I use on Instant Handbrake: PSP or IPOD 5G?
|
Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
I use PSP since iPod 5g tends to turn on the H.264 encoding which does NOT work right on the N800.

Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
Perhaps it is a new version, but there now is IPOD MPEG-4 and IPOD H.264. What does PSP stand for and would you know what the difference between IPOD MPEG-4 is and PSP MPEG-4?

Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
Use the iPod MPEG-4 then.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Media Converter - DVD Handling
By the way, what video player do you use? And will the one that comes with the 770 be sufficient for these files?
