Thoughts about Icon templates for new OS like Nemo or Sailfish
 

Since back when I got my first Symbian device with theme support, I always had the problem with different icon styles of apps that destroy the immersion of an icon theme.

The only way to handle that problem seems to be hard coded "icon labels" beneath app icons. Of course those "icon labels" should be themeable too. Just the applications app icons shouldn't be able to change those "app labels".

I made a reference design where I included different app icon styles from Android, iOS and several other icons I found by google image search.

I really hope Nemo, Sailfish or any other OS picks this idea up!

This was implemented in a similar way on the original Galaxy S (and caused the wrath of Apple). It is also effectively used in the ubuntu taskbar.

I like the idea, and I would add that the background could add a feature digitally read from the icons, like color or something else.

You can build an Icons pack for the N900 bro ;)

Also BB10. There are libraries like Subway with system icons too.
