Nokia BL-5C batteries at risk of exploding

Disturbing news, though I suppose only 100 incidents out of 300 million batteries is not bad.

This is not of direct relevance to Internet Tablet owners but it is the battery that the Navigation Kit GPS transceiver uses.
You can check whether that needs to be replaced by entering the ID number here

Strange how the word "explode" was the shock headline used, when the press release was very specific to point out the likelyhood of this happening.

Of course Nokia isn't going to use the word "explode", they want to downplay this, but simply put, using the word "dislodge" means the same thing...they explode after overheating! So I'm not so sure what you find "Strange"???

Maybe they didn't use the word explode because they haven't exploded !!

Specifically they say that the battery overheats and dislodges from the battery compartment. Haven't seen exactly where is says explode in the press release.

Where does it say this?

Its strange because when a company announces such a huge recall the first thoughts are of phones blowing up and taking off limbs. Most sensationalist journalism will try to exploit this, and it appears that this is what has been done in this case.

Re: Nokia BL-5C batteries at risk of exploding

i have seen a prototype of the 1500 mAh batteries used in n800 a couple of years ago: the chemistry wasn't fixed yet and the battery, left half a day in a sunny spot on a table, was swollen up to twice the thickness

that was an early prototype and still it didn't "explode" (ok, the temperature wasn't extreme but batteries are tested to simulate the condition inside a car parked in full sunlight during summer)

dislodging means that the battery doesn't fit anymore in its slot; there's a long way before exploding
