Anyway to me it's new so it's probably unreleased or better said, unreleased to the greater public. It may have been burried in some local maemo forum though.

It just update the calendar icon in the menu to the current day . ( same functionality in harmattan >PR1.2)

Nice (checked the deb but didn't install yet -- I don't have the calendar icon on my desktop). The same idea can be applied for updating the e-mail/messaging/dialer/app.manager icons. Instead of using alarmd one would need to use some dbus/sqlite magic, but it's certainly doable.
