Unlocked bootloader, linux, (android just uses the linux kernel, no relationship to any distros.) true multitasking, sexy ui, full qwerty keyboard, much cheaper, terminal, most applications in the repos are FOSS ( I guessed on that last one.)

You can check out my thread "What to do with new N900". I doesn't have much love but still has some things to do with the beast once you receive it.
