[ELECTIONS] [COUNCIL] news aggregator
This is a moderated thread just to plublish concise info for you. It's not meant to start any discussion here
Facts and News about The April/May 2013 Elections (Direct links to voting pages will be behind the banners at time! Just CLICK!) As you already might have noticed, it's time for another Maemo Community Council (MCC) election, which has to happen every 6 months the latest. This time we also try to finalize pending issues around the Hildon Foundation (HiFo) which needs a council (Hildon Foundation Council (HFC)) as supervisory board entity and to coordinate and manage election of the HiFo Board of Directors (BoD). According to common notion in maemo community there seems to be a desire to have MCC take that role of HFC. So MCC and current BoD - after long arguing about the right way to go forward - came up with a process that allows the community to decide on whether you actually want that unified single council entity and also this process hopefully is compliant with all the rules and regulations all involved entities have to adhere to. It looks like this: Code:
1. step: MCC asks community in a referendum to allow small adjustments to the MCC election rules so they won't conflict with any HiFo bylaws rules Referendum voting closed. 82 votes, 77 YES, 1 NO, 4 void: http://maemo.org/vote/results.php?election_id=30 Referendum got votes YES, changes to MCC rules are in effect. Now next one, which is... 2. step: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/sh...13_COUNCIL.png synchronous elections of (new) MCC and (first) HFC. The nomination period for that ended and voting will start on 2013-04-30. We have seven candidates that are nominated for both MCC and HFC, of which the community will vote 5 for each of both entities, in compliance with the then-to-be identical election rules thanks to step 1. It's current council's and (at least partially) BoD's recommendation that you all vote identical on both votes, so we will have an identical body for both MCC and HFC after voting closed. Both the MCC and the HFC election been announced and voting on both will start one day after referendum voting closes: Council Election Voting Closed results: http://maemo.org/vote/results.php?election_id=31 http://maemo.org/vote/results.php?election_id=33 tip: to vote identical on both votes I found the advice to write down what you vote in one vote is really needed since unless you thought very thoroughly to make your decision, you will run into difficulties recalling exact selection and sequence of your previous vote in sister election. Please don't spoil council merging just because you ignored the importance to vote identical on both votes, or you were just too lazy, or full of confidence that you could recall a sequence of a few items for just 5 minutes However there's a convenient workaround for the digital natives who know pencil and paper only from old movies: open TWO windows (or tabs) with http://maemo.org/vote/, select Maemo Community Council Election Q2 2013 in one of them, and Hildon Foundation Council Election Q2 2013 in the other. (you also can simply click <- the links here) Fill in your email addr and token into both windows/tabs in sync (very convenient for copy&double-paste), to log in. Then proceed in one window/tab until you made your complete selection, then go to the other window/tab and exactly duplicate. Only then click "OK" in both windows/tabs. So you're sure you voted identical in both votes, with minimum overhead and virtually zero headache. Worked for me. 3. step: On own discretion the new Hildon Foundation Council may decide to unify or rather merge into the existing Maemo Community Council, and will create according rules for future (Hildon Foundation) council elections so this will become a sustainable status. The MCC on own discretion may decide to permanently accept the duty to serve as HFC for HiFo. Since in step 1 and step 2 we resp you alligned both entities' rules and bodies, there wil be no clash of interests on either side in doing so. So this will result in de-facto only one council entity will exist from then on, which you can call HFC, MCC, MCC/HFC, or any other name the council will come up with, in the end who cares about names? For that council the same rules will apply as do for MCC now or rather after referendum. So much for now. In a few days this post will get augmented to also explain the 4th election that you might have heard about: HiFo BoD election. Please support the guys that try to keep maemo running and alive for you: VOTE! Keep your token mail! You'll need it for all 4 votings. Best Regards jOERG (councilor) see wiki "how elections work" for a in-depth explanation on how votes ensure anonymity, how to vote (technically), and how you can resume an aborted voting process. Here is a TEST election for you to practice and play. Also see #13 in this thread. PS: many thanks to win7mac for the icons! |
Re: [ELECTIONS] [COUNCIL] news aggregator
Dear Community
The nomination period for candidates for the upcoming Maemo Community Council and Hildon Foundation Council has ended on the 23rd of the current month of April. The voting begins on Tuesday the 30th of April. We are happy to see more than enough candidates to hold an election this time. The candidates are as follows: Ruediger Schiller (chemist) Joerg Reisenweber (joerg_rw/DocScrutinizer) Edoardo Spadolini (kerio) Christian Ratzenhofer (Merlin1991) Aakash Sadh (thedead1440) Michael Demetriou (qwazix) Paul Healy (sixwheeledbeast) You can see all candidates and their declarations at the following wiki page: http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_Coun...e_declarations One day earlier, on the 29th, the voting for the currently running referendum will end, as planned, in order to have the results of the vote before the voting period for the Council starts. The nomination period for the elections of the Hildon Foundation Board is extended for 4 weeks due to insufficient candidates. On behalf of the Maemo Community Council chair, Michael Demetriou |
Re: [ELECTIONS] [COUNCIL] news aggregator
Apologies for the OT, feel free to move this post to a more appropriate thread....
I've read previously that MCC would be merged with HFC & there'd be only one entity called HFC. Now I'm seeing it's been "decided" to merge them both & call that single entity MCC instead... When did this "common notion" supposedly coalesce into the most broadly/commonly accepted one? *edit* nvm I see this: Quote:

Re: [ELECTIONS] [COUNCIL] news aggregator
How to verify that my vote is correct? I have checked the token and the vote but see no possibility to verify. If it wasn't correct should I then mail someone and inform that it was wrong or???

Re: [ELECTIONS] [COUNCIL] news aggregator
I can see from the voting results page (http://maemo.org/vote/votes.php?election_id=30) that my vote was counted correctly, but what I don't understand is why some tokens have 2 votes marked, like "1.YES 2.NO" ?

Re: [ELECTIONS] [COUNCIL] news aggregator
juiceme,
Most likely since its a preference given some people were not alert enough to the question and chose both yes then no instead of just one of the options... This is useful when electing candidates as you can prioritise your preferences but in a direct yes/no it was assumed maybe that people would at least bother to read before voting... |
