N9 terminal has no arrows
 

I used to have up down left and right arrows above the keyboard. Suddenly they disappeared and in their place are < > keys. Actually, all those tabs above the keyboard changed. I don't know what I did.
Can anyone please help?

Swipe horizontally on the terminal when not in copy-and-paste mode to switch toolbars.

You must have inadvertently selected "Shell" in the settings. Just go into settings (three lines in the corner) and select "Arrows".

Swiping horizontally just brings up a copy balloon or does nothing.
I can't find the settings - 3 lines in the corner?
There is the entry window, the tool bars and then the keyboard. Nothing else.

Found it.
The text selection mode must be in the disabled. Then horizontal swipe changed the tool bar.
Still can't find the settings though.

I'm glad you figured it out. For the record the settings icon is directly above the text selection mode icon.

Oh yes. Found the settings too.
I had text hiding the 3 lines. I turned the phone sideways thinking that it might be on the side not visible in the portrait view. The side view allowed the 3 lines to be seen because the text wasn't long enough to hide it. Then back in the portrait view If I looked hard enough the 3 lines can be seen (just) behind the text.
