Eh? What letters? You mean things like ABC onder the number 2 etc? Those are not for entering letters, those are merely for a mnemonic form of writing telephone numbers, like 1-800-JESUS (which just means 1-800-53787). I've heard it is popular in the US but as far as I know, nowhere else.
