aftermarket car charger not charging
 

Hi, I recently bought my n800 off of ebay used and it came with an aftermarket car charger. When I would plug this charger in, my n800 would display "not charging" I tired buying another charger from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Charger-for-...QQcmdZViewItem
However, this charger says the same "not charging" when plugged in. I've tried different vehicles and tried unplugging and plugging back in several times but nothing works. Does this sound like my n800 or is there history of car charger problems? Oh, and the wall charger works perfectly...never a problem. Thanks

Then it's not the n800. I have an after market charger that has the same symptoms but depending on how i move the plug in and out, at the device side, it will work.

Hmmm, i haven't tried slower or faster or anything. Is it the slower the better or what does the trick? thanks

Ok if anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've tried everything pushing the car charger into the n800. I've tried fast, slow, real slow, and everything else for about half an hour... Nothing works. Could it be that the car charger is an off-brand? Would it be the n800 at all? Should I buy the Nokia brand car charger? TIA

I am not sure how the battery charging controler in the N800 works, but I seem to get the "not charging" message when using an underpowered charger. My guess is that the N800 is demanding more current than the charger can provide.

Initially, I thought my problem was that the Boxwave adapter I was using didn't fit correctly. However, after testing it using different power supplies, I am convinced that the message is do to under powered supplies.

The adapter I use converts USB to the Nokia mini power jack. I always get the message when using my work PC and the Boxwave to charge a less than half capacity N800. If I move to a newer PC in the office the N800 charges without error. Also, I don't seem to get the error when charging the N800 with a near full battery and I never get it with the supplied Nokia charger.

I guess i'll try to buy a nokia car charger b/c with 2 aftermarket chargers and several different cars, nothing seems to work. thanks for the info anway

I've seen that message when I tried charging with a charger that gave less than 4V (it was for older Nokia phones). I suggest you borrow a voltmeter/multimeter from someone and measure the voltage out of the car charger. Or maybe the specs are even printed on it?

So if the problem is the voltage, what should i do? Should i buy a new charger or alter one of the ones i have? if i buy one, where can i find one that works? ebay has a lot but they all look aftermarket and look like the exact same two i already have that dont work. thanks

Bump. I have been having this same problem with a wall socket iGo charger. It didn't use to be a problem but has started lately. Very annoying. I happen to have a second iGo charger and it works fine with that one.
