Make a custom version of Kernel-Power

Hi, I'm not new to kernel compiling but I haven't complie a kernel for my N900. I'd like to create a custom kernel based on the last kernel-power and use it on my phone. What tools I have to install on my pc? I'm running Debian Sid. And what I've to do to flash it on my phone?

The correct way should be to use ScratchBox - either in VMWare SDK image (which still can be found over the inet if searched for) or an chroot installation.

As you'll have .debs produced as a result of the compilation (or rather as a result of dpkg-buildpackage...), you simply have to install those .debs on your device (kernel-power, kernel-power-modules, kernel-power-flasher). There are more complicated ways as well - like using the flasher.

@nieldk

Not that I need the image....believe I got it (around in my storage somewhere here :D )already ...wanted to check 'er out though....

....perhaps it is just me .....buuutttt....

"Not Found

The requested URL /torrent/5446211/Maemo_Ubuntu_Intrepid_Desktop_SDK_Virtual_Image_Fi nal.7z was not found on this server.
Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at thepiratebay.si Port 80"

Is what I got when clicking your link.
If it ain't just me....well then...thought I should let you know.

Ummm...pirate has 0 seeders.....sumo's got 1....
you could try

http://torrent-finder.info/show.php?...5-398-157-321-

Now there is a mouthful of an url ... I use torrentfinder...a meta scrounger....just click on sumo on the nav bar...the torrent is there.

I think this is the link that nieldk posted but was broke...

http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/5446211

Or you could check out the archive ...

https://web.archive.org/web/20131117...env-downloads/

buuuuttt...actually ....the archive may not have THAT exact image...
worth a looky loo though.

I've to download Maemo_Ubuntu_Lucid_Desktop_SDK_Virtual_Image_Final .7z right?

Shuld we put this in another site and update the wiki?

Re: Make a custom version of Kernel-Power

Weeellll...that depends...
If you had your heart stuck on getting specifically THAT Intrepid desktop server image...then you may not be so happy...since it is has (virtually) no torrent seed support currently. Shy of asking the community....you are stuck.
But if Lucid will do what you want....then Hurray! :D

Out of curiosity, what exactly you want to change in kernel-power (why custom kernel)?

I would like to remove some things that I don't need and try to remove some security mechanism inside the kernel... these security things are useful (like heap-randomization or stack protection from buffer overflow) but ... guys I do not use an anti-virus on my devices since 2010 (also under Windows) the real anti-virus is myself ... and also N900 it's no longer a target for hackers.

Re: Make a custom version of Kernel-Power

Guys... I've some problem to understand exactly what I've to do it. I found some pages (very old) that explain how to compile a kernel from the beginning. I'm not a noob.. I've already complied successfuly a lot of kernel on my PC for my PC, but this is the first time that:

- I complile a kernel from my PC for another architecture/device
- I compile for Maemo
- I use Maemo SDK
- I use Scrathbox

Btw, I know how to edit a f***** config file to compile a kernel... Can someone write down here step-by-step what I've to do :D? Pleeeeeessssseeeeeee
