Now that internettablettalk.com is gone....

I figured this a good place to post since it would get buried far to quick in "general"...and it kinda-sorta is in this category (vaguely).

So here is the gist of it...
Perhaps someone has an answer that will magically make everything better...
ie. some hidden (in plain view) site I'm not seeing..
so anyone who knows chime-in anytime...

ahh-hem....right.
So... since internettablettalk.com has gone....
There are a ton of links in our subforums for some pretty important how-to's, files, programs and fixes and stuff...
(not sure how many for the n900 yet...but there are a lot for the n8x0 and 770 ...)
that ....of course ...were over on internettablettalk ...well...is there a saved archive of the site somewhere? (I hope)

Of course I've checked wayback machine ...
it has a handful of pages saved...and of course again...most not relating to anything that is initially linked to I.T.T (from our subforum postings) as needed..

So is there another site somewhere that has saved this invaluable ...hard-worked-for-by so many and countless-man-hours-spent-sweating-over info? or is it lost forever? Last thing I (or many others I'm sure) want to hear is ..."it's lost forever"...

Ideas? Insights? Suggestions?

Tapioca?

Ask NSA, they will be invaluale for any researchers trying to come up with how it was before 201x (archive.today is pretty fresh afaik, you could also try searchlores http://search.lores.eu/indexo.htm for deeper web, there could be better archives once you search better)

Re: Now that internettablettalk.com is gone....

yeah good ideas there...appreciate it man :)

yeah have been sifting through archive.today for any tell-tale important itt pages I know are needed for any to utilize tmo posted walkthroughs, how-to's, needed files, etc. ...so far coming up zero...but I have just begun...so we'll see.

[sigh] I was hoping not to have to go deep web diving...
lookin' like I'm gonna have ta go past scuba level...
I need a diving bell :D
wish me luck.

When, you DO find some archived information. SAVE it! and re-post it here.
Just advice for all of us :)

Re: Now that internettablettalk.com is gone....

There is a nifty and powerful web spider (aka offline browser) that can download full sites, named httrack. It will even run on the N900 in Easy Debian. Just slap a 64GB microSD card on, click the button, and relax. ;)

Re: Now that internettablettalk.com is gone....

@malfunctioning...way ahead of the curve there...got httrack ...downloaded and rar'd a few sites for preservation already...

@nieldk...way ahead of the curve there too....
1stly- been hunting not just out-site for a few years now for the obscure and handy...but also in(tmo)-site stuff and dog-earring it for years...in base categories...
2ndly- once I have gleaned every avail. resource I can hunt down...
the intention is to quickly throw up here an exported mozilla bookmark for everyone's perusal ...which could be added to by those who have links that I may have missed.
3rdly- from there...continue on with proper web-copy and then make that available ....at least for a bit....so enough copies are saved by others that there is no fear of the data being lost...a (barely adequate) redundancy precaution...

Nov 2nd:
NSA / wayback / archive.today turned up little...(may jump back to them if I think of a specifically framed/ worded search term I haven't tried yet...)
...moving on to the deepity-deep.
glub-glub

@endsormeans
What kind of info are you missing from ITT?
Could you give an (or more) example link(s)?

Probably the solution is so easy ...

Re: Now that internettablettalk.com is gone....

wellywellwell...
ya sure...
for example...neatojones' e17 info...lost...
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=254256&postcount=1
(http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...0&postcount=96)
just 1 out of countless links to itt that are gone...
no ...actually hold on a sec...
It looks like it was slid back in to tmo....here...
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=27289...
this is the 1st time I've lucked out...so far...
and only because I typed in a search specifically for "updated Instructions for installing E17 by neatojones" which gave a few links including straight here http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=27289
hrm....exactly what did happen when itt shut the lights out?
was some or all of their data merged here??
Is it possible that though the links to itt go to pages that are gone and dead...that the links were simply not redirected to their new locations within tmo? There is hoping. hum.
Bloody loopy...lookin everywhere in the great abyss of the deepity- deep web... and finding it here.
But this is just 1 very small (in this case ...successful) example.
There is a lot of critical work that took people a long time to do... ...misplaced? mislinked? however to call it.

That was just a lucky break tho' ...
the updated wireless link (right below the neatojones e17 itt link) it doesn't have any specific and distinguishing keywords I can bind ...to hunt down where it went...
there are so many links to itt ...especially in the 770, n800, n810 subforums and diablo all the way down...not to mention scattered through applications, devel, alternate operating systems subforums too...and I don't think older posts concerning the n900 escaped.
Most definitely 1st things 1st...These broken links need to be marked with a yellow highlighter :D
Then an egg hunt to find out where the links may be.....
Then put it in one resource perhaps?....at the very least re-affix the link properly...

Longer this stuff sits like this...the harder it will get...and then it will most definitely be a crying shame....
Just me doing it...would probably take me the rest of my life...sifting through the forums trying to find broken links ...then trying to track down where that specific data may be...and putting a notice of where the real link is in the original posting...
This is something a bit too big for just me...a community effort is needed.
I know many may say.."why ...I'm not interested...I got a n9 or n900 or whatever..and I don't need that old stuff..." Knowledge is power...and the loss of alot of stuff is on the line...and that may include some element of something that was done along time ago that may have relevance for the new thing desired on newer devices....no data is useless or of lower value ....just never know when you need to revisit something old to make something new. Not to mention sooner or later the same nightmare will crawl up to the (now newer) devices (which in the future will be that much older..) and bite everyone who wants to preserve the data then...
I know we got a manpower issue...but we gotta save this stuff...

My best suggestion is to 1st do a giant billboard sticky telling everyone that when they go slumming into the depths of the older posts...anywhere....if they see links try 'em out...if they fail...they can then put a notification of the post containing the damaged link in a specified thread.
That way compiling the damage can at least begin...
it won't be so painfully huge a task...
and then rectifying it won't be a huge titanic effort.

Re: Now that internettablettalk.com is gone....

Yep, that was what I hoped.
Nothing should be lost. Everything should be there.

Each time you stumble upon an ITT link like:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=268210&postcount=96
or
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=268210&postcount=96
or
http://www.internettablettalk.com/index.html?p=268210&postcount=96
just convert it to:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread?p=268210&postcount=96

History (afaik):
ITT was a private owned site (by Reggie), was renamed/'absorbed' to TMO (still owned by Reggie, paid by Nokia) and ITT got redirected to TMO, TMO got transferred to HildonFoundation and ITT (domain still owned by Reggie) was not used anymore.

So, all info on one place.
That's it.

Re: Now that internettablettalk.com is gone....

Ok...that is very very good news to hear then.

That being said the only links that would be broken here are old dropbox links and the like....which then make for less a horrendous nightmarish mess.

So ...if there is no intent to do the finicky 1-by-1 link address altering for each messed up itt link (I don't blame a soul here for not wanting to...hell gives me the willies :D)
...then making this a knowledge commonplace by putting it on a neon flashing banner sticky with pictures of stein's of beer and strippers on it...detailing the brief "how-to" will definitely not be lost, forgotten, or ignored.

So ....if I find any itt links that don't work with this patch method ...I'll post them in this thread... for community perusal and puzzlement...

big thanks peterleinchen...
