Pimp my N8x0-Part 3 -Repos, Catalogues, Apps and Program Preservation Initiative (hopefully?)
In this post I've dealt with Gronmayer repos for OS2008 (alphabetically) which encompasses Chinook, Diablo and Fremantle.
For the OS2007 and OS2006 Repo lists which are predominantly for Bora, Mistral, Gregale, Scirocco, Herring, I'll give someone else the chance to have fun hunting and noting which ones work and which ones don't for these ones... So...yeah... Finally got to finishing this... Took long enough in easter-egg hunting alone.. in essence what I did was ... For starters... to really take a close look at what catalogues on Gronmayers are working, which ones need tweaking, which ones are salvageable (when I say "salvageable" I mean you can still access, download and use said apps and programs...as long as the archived area still has everything there ...that is.....cool eh? :D) , which ones are gone but stated as functional and lastly ones that are just ...gone. possibly unrecoverable ...It took sifting through wayback for each problematic catalogue ...including hunting within archived sites just to snake around and find saved dates that contained all the possible needed info. I haven't gone Deepity-Deep-Deep into the Under Web ...but have gone deep enough ...with multiple engines hunting...not much that I couldn't find with the wayback...so to keep things tight...I used wayback for all examples to keep continuity... I attached notes in the side columns with either alternate links....slight instruction for the new people...and mention as well if some catalogues are gone.. Whether some or most of the repos have either obsolete, conflicting, or apps and programs which cannot be found anywhere else...well.... I think that someone/ people with far greater scrutiny and official capacity should look and decide what is truly salvageable here and if possible finally just contact (especially in the case of catalogues I have exhumed from the graveyard... :D...) those parties and find out if it is alright to shunt them over to "maemo central" so-to-speak...instead of having individual's stuff fall apart slowly (or quickly...) and be lost forever...because they don't / can't privately host it on their sites any longer and shut their sites down. Failing that...at the very least perhaps have maemo officials contact Gronmayer to ask to revise the page to reflect the true state of functioning and non-functioning catalogues. http://s26.postimg.org/4isyhpo9l/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/glya59zbt/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/4y48aqa6x/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/b0ggeyo0p/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/4o1b54kyh/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/6tvlzmoex/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/paq0qg4d5/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/k0l1z5k49/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg http://s26.postimg.org/r52v86rdl/Pag...x0_n900_In.jpg I know there are a handful of other catalogues and sites with apps and programs...and I'll toss them into the electron microscope here for examination soon. In the meantime if anyone knows of any sites with catalogues, apps, and programs which have slipped the proverbial net...this is the thread for them. The aim (to reiterate) is to see if we already have said exact external site data in our maemo catalogues/repos/extras and if yes it can be noted to "disregard" it ...otherwise we should try to preserve it in our repos (if permitted of course). Have fun viewing / utilizing the exhumed catalogues... Not to forget... n770, n800, n810 and n900 users please step up and help in the hunt, testing, official communication with the 3rd party app/program/repo owners...and hopefully migrating what we can into "maemo central" repos ... Stuff like this really needs sorting out or it will end up being a lot of hard work on cool programs people at one time made .... that just got lost or ended up being floating cadavers in the web due to inaction... and that ends up being a loss for everyone. That is the rough end of the stick if nothing gets done... The good end of the stick is ... If we can migrate even a fraction of the programs / apps (from here and elsewhere that we don't already have in extras/devel/testing ..) then it will simply massively thicken the scope and breadth of available programs for our devices.(bonus)..not to mention what may be portable (or innovated upon for that matter...)up or down the device line subsequently ..(bonus) A great deal of gain for very very minimal sweat ...(excellent bonus) Merry Christmas Everybody :) PLEASE HEAD OVER TO PIMP MY N8X0- PART 4 -BEST & EASIEST VIDEO ENCODING here http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...39#post1345839 |
Re: Repos, Catalogues, Apps and Program Preservation Initiative (hopefully?)
i think we may have something similar to the multiflash game package on n900. either that or i'm confused with n95.

Re: Pimp my N8x0-Part 3 -Repos, Catalogues, Apps and Program Preservation Initiative (hopefully?)
I'm finally finished the entirety of the proper work associated with catalogues pertaining specifically with the n800 and n810
and as well as specifically with chinook and diablo os's (since chinook applications run under diablo quite well...integrating both os's seemed apt) Gronmayer's is great... but it is in disrepair and is at the tipping point of needing great attentions... as it is... enabling all catalogues currently in an n8x0 or 770 results in a horrendous number of non-functional catalogues [due to their states] By no means is the following complete... this is just for diablo and chinook [in majority...there are a few for other dist.'s which are applicable to the n8x0...] THERE ARE EVEN MORE CATALOGUES AND EVEN MORE APPLICATIONS BELOW CHINOOK [in gronmayer alone] WHICH I HAVEN'T TESTED OUT AT ALL...[bora, gregale, etc....] FOR THE N770 AND N8X0 ...THAT ARE IN POTENTIALLY WORSE SHAPE WITH EVEN MORE LOSS (I ANTICIPATE).... So much work is slowly being lost ... these catalogues MUST be properly saved from oblivion... they all are not safeguarded... as can be seen from the list of lost catalogues here. I stress yet again that we as a community should be absorbing these catalogues and their applications into our fold (some I'm sure are already there..but for those that aren't...) lest we lose even more hard work done for our devices... Those who have moved on to the n900 and n9 etc... some may possibly believe that these old catalogues not worth the effort or other things more important...but I beg to differ. The wealth of knowledge here cannot be lost...and those bits salvageable ...should be salvaged ...not only for posterity, but use, and study as well to potentially implement in the newer os's and devices... A cautionary warning... look again at the list of catalogues gone forever.... the catalogues which are partially gone... and the growing list of catalogues which are ...for the time being ..salvageable... It is much more apparent and dire when seen properly... we really must stop this... Lest the stairs behind us catch fire while we ascend.. Onward.... the next post are the catalogues thoroughly stated ready for use, or testing, or hunting (for reinstatement in their proper place again) down... |
Re: Pimp my N8x0-Part 3 -Repos, Catalogues, Apps and Program Preservation Initiative (hopefully?)
This is the reality of Gronmayers Meta-Catalogue today.
using this first list is fine, using the n900 backports are fine (be aware of the fact they will mess with your application manager list if kept enabled ) and utilizing the applications dug up from salvageable catalogues should work... but serious work needs to be done to safeguard these hard worked-for programs... (Also ... use of " ' " in any given catalogue name will result in a corruption of the Catalogue Name ...meaning it must be revised... I refer to " rmt's maemo hacks " as a prime example below.) So what are your currents repos now ?
|
Re: Pimp my N8x0-Part 3 -Repos, Catalogues, Apps and Program Preservation Initiative (hopefully?)
Hey razor :D
Well...wish I had the time and people and mass interest ... Hell then we could petition all these individual maintainers to try to get all these many scattered gems under the one roof of our maemo repos here... But I just haven't enough time .... I do know that since I last checked ... all the above mentioned still working... are still working... But it is only a matter of time ... sooner or later we will start losing them if we don't bring them under the maemo repo umbrella... |
Re: Pimp my N8x0-Part 3 -Repos, Catalogues, Apps and Program Preservation Initiative (hopefully?)
Ok now...
So let's begin with some (hopefully) interest (I am sure it will take some time for many n8x0 members to notice this new objective ...so don't worry ...no great rush and worry about not finding out in enough time to join and give you input and help folks.. :) ), members who wish to help save disparate repos and their contents , throw some ideas around, and slowly start to implement Operation : Save Alexandria |
