Looks great. Much better than aquaris all over. The question is...do they deliver IT world wide to us?

Yeah, I saw this earlier.

It looks like a great phone. But I have a few gripes with it.
Firstly, its those capacitive buttons. Its not 2011 anymore, get rid of them.
Secondly, there's no microSD slot. So you better have it in 64GB model.
Thirdly, the loudspeaker is average. And its not stereo. And its not front firing. See SONY Z3.
Forthly, the screen. Its great in almost every way except... aspect ratio!
1920/1152 = 5/3 ratio. It ruins compatibility with even Android Apps, where there are cut offs and some missing buttons and so on. Just stick to 1080p... its better for videos, and Apps/webpages are better optimized for it. It also makes it less ergonomic.
Fifthly, speaking of ergonomics, place that headset jack on the bottom. Make those hardware keys a little more 'clicky'. Why make a removable backplate for a non-removable battery. Choose a premium unibody chasis or go with removable battery (if you're a really talented designer like me, do both).

And lastly, its toting a MediaTek MT6595. Strong CPU, Weak GPU, Heat issues, Sub-par battery management, a really mixed bag. Sometimes it behaves like a QSD 600, other times like the QSD 801. But that's the least of one's worries. Just make sure it is bootloader unlockable, and all the source code and documentation is there. In other words, make it dev-friendly. So much so that custom firmware could be loaded from the likes of Android, UbuntuPhone, SailOS, Tizen, Mer, or webOS.

I'd pay upto $500 for it, which seems to be what they're asking for.

PS I was thinking of buying a Nexus 5 just for SailOS, but this might be a better option

The BQ Aquaris E4.5 (what a fvking mouthful) has 8GB of internal NAND/SSD memory.

That converts to about 7.4GB of usable memory.
And from that, there is about 5.3GB accessible to the user on the phone.
Hence, the Ubuntu Phone ROM itself uses around 2.1GB's.

In other words, its more memory used than FirefoxOS and barebones Android (~1GB). Around the same memory used as light Android builds (2.0-2.5GB). And much less memory than Bloated Android and iOS (4.0-6.0GB). In layman's terms, its pretty neat !



So on the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition, it'll have a 16GB capacity with no option to expand it. The amount available to the user will probably be around the 12.0GB to 13.0GB margin. And to me, that's pathetic for a high-end phone. Anything less than 25GB is pathetic for the high end market.

A rule of thumb that I generally use for ARM devices:
4GB - Enough for OS - but not enough for personal use
8GB - Low End - enough for system and apps, but no photos/music/videos/high-end games
16GB - Mid Range - enough for system/apps/photos/music but not videos or high-end games
32GB - Mid Range - enough for system/apps/photos/music/videos/high-end games but is a bit limited
64GB - High End - enough for system/app/photos/music/videos/games with lots of freedom

Unless its an x86 PC:
32GB - Enough for OS
64GB - Low End
128GB - Mid Range
256GB - High End

hmmm.... I actually like the pones that use the bezel which has to be there for buttons and don't like that android onscreen buttons that just take space for no reason.
Of course, sseing them on UT is stupid but on android I prefer them over onscreen ones.

And once again, mediatek again........ next.

looks great, if only sailfish users had hardware even remotely close to this. :)

just never been much of a ubuntu fan given a choice (more of a suse chap).

Agree with Jedi.
I rather SailOS. And even on desktop I rather SUSE over 'buntu.
KDE is great, Unity is gross. RPM is better*

On-screen buttons are much better because of four reasons:
- That useless bezel can be shaven off = smaller device
- The size of the buttons is customizable
- The order, action, animation, design and amount of buttons is customizable
- When not in use (eg video) the buttons hide away, giving you a larger screen

Its really the modern route.

On-screen > Hardware > Capacitive buttons

Alcatel Idol 3 is very close.
Meizu MX4 is very close.
Huawei X1 is very close.
SONY Z3 is very close.
LG G2 is there (has logo).
LG G PRO 2 (logo).
LG G Flex 2.
Moto G '14
Moto X '13
Moto X '14
Nexus 6.

In other words, not many handsets because this is new thinking/design and that most OEMs don't want to give up on a front logo (even when there's alternatives).

I think eventually we will get that design, as technology will evolve to it like nature. The only question is "when"... I believed it would've happened already.

Okay... Did anybody ever hear about Saygus going to release the V2 phone? It does not have hardware keyboard or resistive touchscreen, but it does have microSD, hence lots of memory. And, stereo loud-speaker. And, any operating system that you can get to run on it. And, great cameras, both front and rear. And...
