N900 VOIP / SIP lags, choppy, metalic voice / codec problems
Hi,
I got a N900 with power Kernel installed. Since the phone is kind of dead on the development side I plan on using it as a SIP Phone. The problem is now that I can not get it to work probably. Even with Skype its just choppy and not really usable. As a SIP Phone my voice sounds like I am Darth Vader. When I get called the caller is also choppy. If I call the called person hears Vader and I have no problem understanding the called person. The Router is a AVM Fritzbox 7490. My provider is T-Online. My N9 works flawless but keeping the Wifi alive is not an option since it drains the battery. The number I am using is a landline number hence switching the Wifi off is not really feasable. With the N900 I would just leave it pluged in all the time. I played around with jitsy as SIP software. There the same problem arises. From what I was able to find there seems to be a problem with the Codec (e.g. G722). It seems that there is a compability issue how the Fritzbox handles the codecs. If the device or the software chooses the wrong one the phenomena I described surfaces. Is there a way to influence which codec the N900 uses? Did anyone manage to use the N900 as a SIP relaibly? Thx |

I am sure you know this thread? But not sure if it helps you.
My SIP experiences are also not that good [but never have been with any wlan device]. |
Re: N900 VOIP / SIP lags, choppy, metalic voice / codec problems
Hi,
thx. I missed that one. Hmm they recommend a different Wifi driver. + fix the frequency of the cpu + some people use different codecs I will play around alittle. I hope the codec is the culprit. Thats what messes up the SIP call with Jitsi. Not sure if the driver is still save to use since its probably based on a outdatet kernel http://david.gnedt.eu/blog/wl1251/ |

It is safe to use.
And if you already use power kernel (latest version kp53) you got thos wlan drivers included as extra modules. Just search kor kp53 and bleeding edge driver. |
