Mobile data doesn't always work
 
One member of my family uses their N9 for everyday use. Now we noticed that mobile data is fairly unstable.

It works on our home network (PLAY). But our service provider makes use of other cell towers. We're connected to T-mobile cell tower atm. When trying to connect to mobile, internet, the connection instantly fails ("Unable to connect to Internet" or so)

This first started while using the mobile hotspot functionality. We did a settings restore (but not a full reset). We can't do a full reflash or do a full reset - we have nowhere to backup the contacts or messages but the device itself.

Do you have any ideas what's the problem?

I had a simular issue after using the mobile hotspot years ago. I believe this was the fix:

gconftool --recursive-unset /system/http_proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/osso
I BELIEVE this deletes all connections to the phone; wifi and cellular.

It allowed the phone to make the connections as if for the first time. Did the trick for me....

I have the same problem, on the Polish Virgin Mobile which uses play architecture. I get cant connect to internet no matter what. Upper solution didn't fixed my problem

It was local roaming disabled. :)
