Using Mass Storage Mode with Windows 10

As with many Windows users, I changed to Windows 10 recently. I also needed to upgrade the whatsapp version. I downloaded the file and had a hell of a time trying to get the file to my phone. The new bluetooth drivers don't connect and send files to the phone. When I plug in the phone and press mass storage option, the phone says it's in the mass storage mode. Yet, Windows explorer only gives me the option of N9/Data and nothing can be copied or transferred to that location. I can't browse the phone like a hard drive like I used to.

What's worse, is that I can't download any files on the Firefox browser installed on the phone. I tried emailing the file to myself and couldn't download the file from gmail or from the zippyfile site.

I finally used the email button and got to my gmail and downloaded that way...

How can I get mass storage to work again? I have already checked to see if I have the Nokia USB driver. I even "repaired" the installation. What gives?

Re: Using Mass Storage Mode with Windows 10

If you are dealing with windows...
win xp is the most friendly.
win 7 works too with a little tweak here and there.
wouldn't bother with vista, win 8 or win 10.
Do yourself a huge favour ...just install win xp or win 7 [if you MUST use windows] on a separate partition, a flash drive, or in a virtual machine...and utilize it thus.
I am a proponent of win xp and win 7 ...and like many win users here will not be migrating to 10.
There are only a couple of maemoans who are utilizing 10 as I understand it.
You could ask them.
But really...
to reiterate...
you will get more help for your device using win xp, win 7 or linux than EVER you will probably get for win 8 or 10.

I also had a similar opinion about XP until I found some HW working fine in 7 but no longer working in XP.
OTOH, my old all-in-one printer/scanner works in XP but no longer in 7 and above.

That seems like a predictable pattern. Old OS struggling to support new HW and new OS no longer bothering with the old. Since XP is dead, you may find yourself more and more in deep water when it comes to supporting new HW so, if you want to continue using Windows, you may find that at some point you will have to upgrade, whether you like it or not.

If you still can, roll Windows back to your last OS. Win10 is still not ready yet, sadly... Many Windows 8 users were expecting this to be the second coming with a revised start menu but it has bought more security and legacy issues than you would expect for an OS with such a long open beta dev cycle.

I don't want to sound like a fanboy, to be clear; XP and 7 was great, vista got better, and 8 became ok. 10 is still not ready.

raulito everything works fine with Windows10 and N9, don't listen these dump linux nerds. The problem is in your phone. Install Filebox and check if you can access MyDocs folder.

Agreed Minkin2

@ coderus ...
Possibly you are right ...
possibly it is his phone..
but since I'll never use win 8 or 10 I will never have the ability to follow through and test it.
I'll never upgrade from win 7 as long as there are hideous issues with win 8 / 10.

For myself I still consistently use win xp [sometimes for my work] and win 7 [daily for my work]..
[.I'm a staunch supporter of and loved win 98 , xp tablet edition and win 7...]
and the rest of the time it's linux...
so my time has always been split roughly in half between win and linux for a decade plus now...
but ...
...hahaha..."dump linux nerds"?
Never been called that before...
it's nice being thought of as a nerd...
badge of honour and whatnot
thanks
:D

Windows10 works perfectly for me, and N9 storage works with no any issues, same for any other devices and operations i'm doing on my PC. Please keep using your favorite OS yourself. But suggest peoples to install WinXP to work with N9?! it's ridiculous :D

Re: Using Mass Storage Mode with Windows 10

Well, we tested Win10 with a friend and it simply sucks. Nothing works properly out of the box: Firefox is blurry, Gourmet fails, so does VirtualBox. Hedgewars and Supertuxkart have a screwed display. Garmin Express is unusable. Win10 lags. Spies. The only advantage - it's not as ugly as Win8 (but still)

Visually, even my mom prefers either Unity or Cinnamon to Win10. And with many missing drivers & some hardware problems, Linux seems to be just as stable as the alpha quality Windoze.

I'd suggest you install a Linux distro in parallel. You can use some nightly of VirtualBox which (hopefully) may not have *so many* problems to find out the desktop environment for you.

Re: Using Mass Storage Mode with Windows 10

Sure, you see: you suggesting to change distro becayse YOU had some random problems with Win10, even if other peoples not. For example it works perfectly for me. Firefox is perfect, drivers are great, Virtualbox is amazing.
