AntiX 15 for n900 neo900...
I've been messing around in the latest version of AntiX 15 on one of my laptop drives...
and I noticed something interesting ... in the antiX Control center... "configure umts & gprs" looking in... quite interesting... under "providers" ... under Canada... there is rogers and fido ...whaddya know... actually I'm quite impressed what providers there are... actually I'm impressed with the system requirements.. which most definitely work for our devices.. and actually I'm surprised no one at AntiX or here has thought of mangling it onto our devices..[I find it very surprising in fact that no one at AntiX has put their distro on anything mobile period...though there was mention in their forums that they are open to working on it with those who have some idea what to do...] Personally I am not sure where to even begin mangling it onto the n900 [or even the neo yet] ..since I have never done such magik before... Could someone far more "wizard" than I take a peek at antiX? and post your thoughts on it here? |

A quick peek at the antiX website yielded the following observation;

Yup.
there isn't a binary distribution out there for it yet... but they mention they are open to the idea.. they just haven't explored it. |
Re: AntiX 15 for n900 neo900...
Seems like a distro that would be fun on a N900, played around with Puppy Linux a lot in the past. I like those snappy lightweight distro's. Having a fully working - and preferably easy to install ;) - current distro with complete compiling environment would be nice.
I'd love to see Sulu return to continue working on Easy Debian, but I currently place my distro bet on DebiaN900 :) |

Yeah ..antiX is alot of fun....very cool..and stupid light-weight too.
I think it would be fab on the n900 or neo. And yeah...second that...love Puppy too. and third that ...[love my easy deb but..] I'm thinking you are right about debian900... |
Re: AntiX 15 for n900 neo900...
I've not tried antiX but any Linux distro that makes a conscious effort to fight the Unix exodus that we're seeing with the major distros gets my thumbs up.
antiX is built on top of the Debian testing branch so the chances are that those GPRS/UTMS options are used to configure either FSO or oFono, both of which are already in Debian. Thank you both for the vote of confidence! Unfortunately I'm going to have very little free time in the next year to work on either DebiaN900 or the full distro that I plan to create using my scripts as the basis. Having said that, while not N900 specific, what I'm working on in my not-so-free time will make its way into the distro. |
Re: AntiX 15 for n900 neo900...
yeah, I'm pretty impressed myself with antiX..
and yeah I've been digging at the telephony aspect of antiX and yup you are pretty much right on. Well don't give up on debian900 whatever you do wicket, we believe in you man... you've done a heck of a job thus far.. looking forward to what you got coming down the pipe. |
