Did you reflash eMMC image first and then without booting the firmware image?

Yeah, as per http://lifewithmaemo.blogspot.cz/201...lock-code.html I had to flsah version 1.2, not 1.3, then it booted up and I was able to crack the password.

BTW: what happens if I install cssu thumb over 1.2? I just need it to use backupmenu to get my system uptodate.

Btw2: the system is rather fast in its default state, my history of six eyars is making it slow, apparently.

And one last thing: how do I unset the lock code so that I am never asked to enter it? Is that possible?

 Could you elaborate?
afaik a downgrade is never allowed.
So what did you do in which order?

cssu is based on PR1.3. I have no idea how it will behave or if it is possible at all.

regarding backupmenu: that will bring back all settings/configs/programs/firmware. So I do not understand really what you want to achieve?

Are you sure you are not confusing it with the N9? I don't think the N900 cares. In fact I have reflashed from CSSU back to stock a number of times. (Although not sure if back to 1.2, may have been 1.3 - is 1.3.1 back to 1.3 not considered a downgrade?)

CSSU is based on PR1.3. So in fact you flash the same firmware.
PR1.3.1 is just some certificates exchange (also included/corrected in CSSU), it was not considered a full firmware upgrade.

Or I may be plain wrong (never tried to downgrade) and the Nx00 series do not care about 'downgrade not allowed' which would definitely surprise me to the ....

I did in fact go back and forth between 1.2, 1.3 and CSSU a few times. So, yes, that is possible - on the N900, not the N9 (well, no one told me the trick that does allow it)

Re: bough a locked usef phone, how to unlock?

i needed to crack the lock in a phone i bought as a replacement for my old one that failed. i had to reflash 1.2, flashing 1.3 meant i was still asked about the lock before the phone started.

as already stated, one can apparently flash any version she needs.
