Desktop Shortcuts
Forgive me using a Windows term, but is there any way I can put small icons on the desktop that when clicked start up applications. I know I can start them via the menu on the left, but to start the calendar or canola takes three clicks that way.
If there isn't a built-in way (like Windows shortcuts), then is there a simple app that would do the job (an icon that ran a shell script?). I've looked through this (very useful) forum, but not found anything. Had my 770 for less than a week and already it's a necessity! |

IDEA ? Simple-Launcher ?

Re: Desktop Shortcuts
For OS2007 there's simple-launcher, but there doesn't seem to be a OS2006 (standard 770) version..
Another one is 'idea', which does the job slightly differetnly. I haven't tried it, but it's supposed to be available for both 770 and N800 (OS2006/OS2007). Check in your application manager if you already have it. Unfortunately the one-click installation system (where you click on an 'install' icon on a maemo web page) doesn't handle dual-OS installs, but extrapolating from the OS2007 setup I would guess on manually adding the following repo to the application manager could do the trick: http://repository.maemo.org/extras distribution: mistral components: free non-free Then update and look in the installable applications list. Re: Desktop Shortcuts
Many thanks. I tried both on my 770. Simple Launcher is the one for me!
By the way, both work with OS2006. |
Re: Desktop Shortcuts
My vote is also for simple-launcher on a 770. It's a valuable tool.

Re: Desktop Shortcuts
simple launcher is nice, but have anyone else noticed issues with the right most icon when using transparent backgrounds?
