Yes you can view JPEG files without having to install anything, however you might want to check out Quiver for a good photo viewer.

You can install Debian (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24272) which it will have GIMP, then just install the URaw (http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/) pluggin to view RAW files....
