Mephemeris is another cool app. Thank you for all your work.

I'm having mostly bad luck getting information from my shiny new bluetooth GPS. FWIW Maemo-mapper and MChronos both talk to it.

IANAP, but I suspect an application that generated usable routes would (along with its database) be more than the N800 could handle.

Please, don't. The problem is not permissions but ownership. Install the directories and files in the user's home directory so that they are owned by the user named "user" and the group named...

I believe we have that already.

After you've downloaded (and perhaps tweaked -- I'm not that far along yet) a route, you can save it to a file.

This would be good for making a trip you know...

Don't bother; it looks like your suspicion was right on. I just tried again and it works, although it gave me a nonsensical result on one route.

Looking back, apparently "too many links" means...

I agree that someone should fix the standard repositories. Unfortunately with Maemo5 out the people who have access and know how to do this have probably lost interest in Maemo4 repositories.

Thank you for both MChronos and mephemeris. I installed them both through the repositories without difficulty.

I'm a seaman and still consider myself a navigator, even though we just read GPSs...

I'm running OS2008; I looked at the repository index and didn't see libacl or libacl1 at all. Even with extras-devel enabled the installer complained that it couldn't find...

I can't find that package anywhere in Maemo repositories -- not even in extras-devel.
