I suspect you have a buggy widget installed and that is what it causing the problem.
Do you have the "Currency Exchange Widget" on your phone? I was having the same problem as you until I sorted...

Short answer: No.
It's not nearly ready to be a replacement for Maemo yet (especially if you class yourself as 'inexperienced', that is not what the current version is targeted at at all - the N900...
