Re: Tizen Source and SDK Preview are here
Tizen was never not using DEB. It's, thus far, directly descended from SLP which was always DEB. Whether the packaging format will change is unknown.
That's because Android doesn't actually do...

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core
It goes beyond merely blocking sideloading.
I had one reserved (but put down no money) and ignored the calls to come in and pick it up once the investigations at xda-devs showed that the unit was...

Re: IOS vs. Android all looking at Meego
It depends on what you're after. Certainly, I'm here because of the N900 and what it brought to the table in terms of giving me control, and with Mer/Nemo, it's closer to perfect than anything else....

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core
Ah, ok. Yeah I know there's a variety of wifi chips with their own problems, I thought you had stumbled upon something I wasn't aware of. In any case, things are quieting down at work so I might be...

Re: Maemo on kindle fire?
Yes, the goal was to upstream the necessary board files and drivers (where necessary,) which meant taking the 2.6.32 sources and cherry picking all the useful bits. Unfortunately this also requires a...

Stalled :(
Prior obligations on my and one other developer's part are eating our time and verygreen's working on some CM7 stuff for somethingorother right now. I do believe that martinez (I think...

Re: Cordia : Maemo5 UI on top MeeGo Core
Was there ever clarification about what wasn't open? At least the wifi is a rather boring TI device with drivers already in the kernel... only the graphics are closed as far as I can see.

Re: Tizen?
Every solution I've seen people propose so far is basically Apple's .app style, which leaves you with multiple duplicate copies of libraries and wasted memory due to non-shared libraries. You can...

Re: Maemo on kindle fire?
Not that simple. Too many core bits of Maemo are closed, you'd be better off taking some other Linux base and putting it on the device. Caveat is you probably won't get graphics drivers, which you...

Re: Windows 8 & WinPhone - how to counterstrike?
Microsoft neglected CLI tools for ages, but on the NT kernel they at least had a minimal POSIX environment. Considering Windows, the move to the NT kernel was probably one of the better jumps they...

Re: Windows 8 & WinPhone - how to counterstrike?
Linux will not counter. The question is if someone is willing to use Linux to counter. Microsoft is betting everything on this and banking on their desktop monopoly and name recognition to push them...

Re: Asus EEE PC X101
The problem is in the CPU, and Atom chips max out at 2GB currently. AMD Zacate chips (C-50, E-350) support up to 8GB I believe, but won't work with MeeGo.

Maybe it's because this is the second phone they've ever done, and higher end hardware is harder to get at if you're a low volume buyer? Perhaps developing this has the given them the knowledge...

Re: Geeksphone Zero
Complain all you want, but a device developed in this manner would be WAY more likely to see a non-Android platform come to it than any phone released by a major vendor.

Re: The Epic Android Thread
Pretty much. Once Upon A Time it was a good magazine, but it's just an ad-filled pit these days.
I am more bothered by Florian getting press though.

Re: The Epic Android Thread
ZDnet's over the top interpretation of the Powerpoint slide is quite amusing, and Florian's bloviating about bullet point 2 is just stupid. It reveals nothing we haven't known for ages.
It is...
