update: someone from the n900 Java thread helped me to get it running
extract the files from archive and copy "start_frostwire.sh" into your frostwire program folder, then you copy the program...

..i also have the problem with muted sound in silent mode but this seems to be a maemo specific problem. All my apps seem to be muted in silent mode except the mediaplayer and the phone.
