Was at a friends house helping him look for reasonably priced phone, while his other friend was there i whipped out the n900 to check a text. He said WOW that's the N900 can i shake your hands? Lmao....

Well i had the same thing and found it annoying, went into setting and changed the brightness from the 4th bar to the last. No longer have the screen changing.

best thing to do is exchange. Had the same feeling. In the middle of a download it reboots, 1 min on the web reboots, on a cell phone call reboots, strangely i was able to let a 2hr movie...
