Re: N900 battery drain

From quickly glancing at the zzztop source and going by powertop dependencies, I think they use differing approaches to gather data (i2c vs sysfs). I have tipped off the zzztop maintainer and will...

Re: N900 battery drain

As a desperate measure, took your advise and cleaned up the circuitry inside (and with isopropyl alcohol, no less!). Went to the extent of removing the metal shielding cans and cleaning under it. And...

Re: N900 battery drain

Point taken :-). I'll get around to buying one, hopefully after I get this power drain problem out of the way.

Meanwhile, I have taken apart my N900 and inspected the flex contacts, and they look...

Re: N900 battery drain

Estel: If the core C4 state issue is not likely to be caused by a faulty battery, I might put off getting a new battery till I resolve the issue.

I've read through some of the posts in the...

Re: N900 battery drain

If it is indeed a hardware failure, the most I'm capable of, is to take the device apart tighten and clean the connectors, put it back again and hope against hope that it works! As I remember from...

Re: N900 battery drain

Don't quite know what to make of the rest of the numbers, but the high current (at pretty much the same voltage as yours) certainly sounds bad.

Here's something else that seems odd. I ran...

Re: N900 battery drain

Attaching the test results. File bqidle02.txt -> test #1, bqactive02.txt -> test #2.

A word about the battery. The one I used to test is a stock Nokia battery that came with the phone. However, I...

Re: N900 battery drain

What I meant was that the network mode was set to "Dual", which defaulted to 3G. I had the actual data connection active for around 2 hours at most (less than 1/3rd of the total period). For good...

Re: N900 battery drain

That's right. Afraid I just assumed it was overclocking. There was just a suspicion that overclocking may have caused it. There was no solution, either. Also, the error messages differ from mine.

Re: N900 battery drain

As I realised later, fimware flashing repeatedly failed due to a dead battery. And I had no means to find out since I had removed BME and the charging mechanism was badly broken. Eventually used an...

Re: N900 battery drain

In my eagerness to purge bluetooth dependencies, I went a bit too far and deleted the battery management daemon (and several other packages with it). This nearly bricked my device - took numerous...

Re: N900 battery drain

With all the help here (and some more gathered from older posts), managed to squeeze a bit more out of my battery, It now lasts more than 10 hrs from full charge, which is well more than double of...

Re: N900 battery drain

Sorry, didn't quite think of it! However, the periodic output doesn't appear to show anything too alarming. It's always Xorg or browserd at the top, and CPU usage looks quite normal at around 2~4%...

Re: N900 battery drain

CPU usage on top hovers around the 2~6% mark most of the time. Xorg and browserd are among processes that are most active. Afraid I'm quoting this from crude visual inspection. Is there a way to log...

Re: N900 battery drain

pichlo: I'm unsure if BT is indeed broken, but I can do perfectly well, without it. So its fine if it comes to permanently disabling it. Tried removing bluetooth related programs (did it the dpkg/apt...

Re: N900 battery drain

As it turned out, the spring lock switch was broken. I bought the N900 used, and the switch has always just moved loosely. Before Estel mentioned it, I never even realized it was a "spring" switch. I...

Re: N900 battery drain

Managed to fetch powertop, and I'm afraid the results appear to show a totally different picture (to that of my previous zzztop runs). Here's what I see:

Re: N900 battery drain

Afraid the battery drains just as quickly, with GPS off. Just did a quick test with GPS turned off, and the battery went from 30% to empty in 2 hours flat. I'll test again more thoroughly, with a...

Re: N900 battery drain

@gianko: I did monitor the top output for anomalies, and nothing came up odd (browserd was active for most of the time, but not consuming too much cpu or mem).

@myname24: Tried two different...

N900 battery drain

I have a serious battery drain issue with my N900. The charge runs out in 4~5 hours, from fully charged. Facing this issue ever since I had left my N900 lie unused (and with the battery in it) for...

Fair enough. To be honest, I'm fairly new to the N900 game and still trying to find my way around these forums and the wiki, helpful as they have been already. Will hopefully take you up on the offer...

Re: Thinking of getting a N900

Re: Thinking of getting a N900

Took your advice and read through some of the older posts with "New N900" Ebay experiences. Guess I better wait it out for a decent used N900, then. At least, I have my beat-up N900 to play with,...

Re: Thinking of getting a N900

New here, and in the exact same quandary over buying a new N900 for use as a regular phone.

I have the advantage of migrating from a non-touch device (my 8-year old Nokia N70) which should negate...
