Just drove ~1000mi over the last six days on the Thanksgiving holiday. I downloaded the GPX Driving Directions and then copied and pasted the data into a .gpx file using Leafpad. This is necessary since browsers will only save the gpx data as an html file or a .gpx.txt file... both unusable by Maemo Mapper (MM). Then I enter MM and turn off auto downloading of maps. Next, I edit the map repositories to make sure that I'm saving the data to the MMC, that the zooms are both set in the middle (2 of 4) and that the minimum zoom is set to 4. Now, I open the saved route, then go to Manage Maps and select 'download maps', 'overwrite', 'along route', '2 tile radius' and select all the even zoom levels starting at level 4. This loads a sufficient level of detail along the route while keeping the maps crisp and clear on the screen and keeps the storage space needs down.

I'm running MM2.0 with flite on the latest version of the 2007HE w/ Seatbelt and a 1Gb MMC.

I have a semi-cheap BT GPS module that I purchased from Amazon. The battery lasted throughout the week on one charge. The low battery light started flashing 60 mi from home last night.

2.0 ran more solidly than v.1 did... so much so that I handed the N770 and the BT GPS module over to my 59yo mother so that she could play with it while we caravanned to see some family on Thanksgiving day. She used it successfuly for the length of the trip.

v.1 did load maps faster on the N770, but the reliable hourglass and 2-3sec pauses for map loads are very reasonable and very seldomly annoying.
