Then you do not grasp what MeeGo is nor do you seem to have tried. MeeGo is architecture agnostic, it is inherently by being derived from so many open source projects. Also, the UIs are reference interfaces, they may or may not be what is used on end products.

and you have to hack some other hardware
What part of your problem is relative to this? There is nothing in the mobile space that does not have to be hacked to do odd things, due to the complete lack of standardization across the hardware outside of matching some sort of baseline ARM architecture. Some are easier than others due to better public documentation, but that's just easier, not without needing it.

and tweak an adaptation of Hildon that might or might not be good, then the issue lay with the OS.
No, it is you insisting there is something wrong with an OS that isn't responsible for your problem.

I have issue with busybox as well. I would much rather see a native but slimmed down GNU.
Yes, which we get in MeeGo but not in Maemo 5 or Harmattan (Maemo 6.)

In my opinion the next step for an eventual Maemo 6 should be to have proper GNU compatibility and move Hildon from GTK to QT.
Hildon is so GTK that you'd be better off just replacing it entirely something new. Of course, we haven't really seen what Harmattan has, or if it'll even be open source.
