you use sudo as user. Like
sudo cp file.txt /opt/

^^copies file.txt top /opt/ and you can do it without becoming root with sudo gainroot (or just root)
well it is sometimes needed or sometimes by mistaken i enter sudo (anything)
after i do sudo gainroot
That sometimes drives me crazy
