I had samsung sgh-i450 before with 320*240 resolutin but it could play 720*480 videos with coreplayer and smartmovie.
the playback capability isn't determined by screen resolution but by processor and the software u using, How well the the software resize it according to screen.
I have played 720p videos on N900 using Nitdroid 0.0.8 before using roxplayer or rokplayer i don't remember the name. But strangely mkv and mp4 play much better using Nitdroid then using N900 default player.
what people are saying is that is a waste of processing power. the screen resolution is only 800x480 and if you manage to play a video with a higher resolution, the video will be scaled to fit the 800x480 and there wont be any gain. its a wast of space too. it wont look better. if you take a h.264 codec mp4 video at 1000kbps bitrate, it will look better that the same video im mpeg-4 codec at the same resolution.
There is no HD tv out from n900 either so having that large size video is a waste of space. So you are not going to feel that the 720p video is better that 800x480 as it wont show all those pixels! it will be scaled down.
To the original poster, dont bring insults to someone's mother! Its very rude! People were trying to tell you some technical aspects of the video playback.
