I ran the command that you suggested in xterm and got the following...

1101 root 2132 SW /usr/sbin/gpsdriver
5667 user 1892 SW grep gpsd

When I try to connect, the window in MM still tells me that there is an 'error opening gps device', and prompts for a retry. Suggestions?
