I think you completely missed what he was saying... one of the benefits of open source is choices. To me, the N900 was a minimalistic linux install and I could take it from there (very ideal). No integrated twitter client to annoy me... though I could choose to install one if I wanted. If I wanted a facebook client, I could choose from several, etc.... Granted, this is not something mainstream would want. They're used to a monopolistic company that tells them what they need and should use.
