If you're using Linux, I'd recommend (but I would, cos I wrote it), tablet-encode:

http://mediautils.garage.maemo.org/tablet-encode.html

The v2.01 release tomorrow will also include auto-detection of the longest DVD title, making it even easier to rip DVDs.
