Brian, Only thing I can think of is that the permissions aren't set correctly, probably because you are using filebox to replace the files extracted on the PC (sorry, your post wasn't actually specific enough in this regard to provide some real trouble shooting; details matter!!! ) rather than copy the archive to the N900 and then using the xterm to extract on the N900 as per instructions . Will look into this a bit further. I do all the development on the N900, so any permission issues associated with doing things on the PC and using filebox I am clueless about. PS: I am also using Power Kernel 46, so you should be good to go.
