I don't disagree with the points about the content, but IF the petition gained enough signatures (and offhand I don't know what the quantity is) then Elop would have to acknowledge it. Now, how he would or would not act, who knows. But it's a form of feedback, however flawed, and provides one means of crafting a community message.
Of course, people can alternatively just spew pointless venom and see how that works.
