You are absolutely right, in some countries the ISP provided modem doesn't have PPP settings hard coded in. They are to be configured on the device (Desktop & Laptop) using dial up option (like in Windows 7). I know this because im having the same problem and am unable to connect to my wifi modem even after providing the right WPA password..
