>> The apps story is, IMHO, pretty much overblown. I have yet to find something I need that I cannot do on my N900 (natively or via an available app) that I could do on my Galaxy S with all the available hundreds of thousands of apps. The opposite was, however, true on many occasions. YMMV.

YMMV indeed - one example - lets say I trade financial instruments. In case of unexpected news flow, I want to get out of or into positions while I am away from my PC. I trade with Interactive Brokers.

IB has released dedicated supported mobile clients for both Android, Blackberry and IOS. But not for Meego or Maemo.

So what do I do on Maemo/Meego ? Use the cumbersome webpage interface ? I am dealing with money here - I do not want to use unsupported software since if anything goes wrong, IB will not take responsibility as I will be using an unsupported platform.

This is the advantage of using a popular platform - you get support for your platform whereas if you using a single phone platform, you have to get everything working yourself and take responsibility for it.

And you know what ? Time is MONEY and most people have better things to do then browse forums all day long to try to get stuff on their phone working - they wanna click a button and just have things work. And they are willing to PAY for this.

This concept is alien to most posters here obviously - but thats the reality of the marketplace.
