According to the geniuses in another thread, the N900 was never meant to sell a lot. So... it wasn't a failure.

remenber the iphone have no ecosystem when its start it was practically a dumbphone, needed to be hacked.
Also remember that Apple already had iTunes in place. And they were quickly pushing it to be the go-to media sync app for the iPhone. And did so... quickly.

but the brand power and marketing move it, i remember even jobs calling kinectic scrolling something revolutionary.
