I'd leave the battery charging for lots of hours. Sometimes they appear dead as doornails, then after enough juice, alive as fireflies. I have two Hong Kong batteries and the original N800 battery, so I have quite a bit of experience with 'em.

I would guess that there's nothing wrong with your N810 except possibly a bad battery.
