Actually it was MeeGo i was thinking of and as they require a minimum spec i think what Google did is the way to go.

There is not only Intel that will make a handset/tablet but many China production companies will give a good price on a protortype too.

Joint venture between Maemo and MeeGo maybe?.

Some brilliant dev's on this site and i think it really is the way to go.
