Seriously though, thank you for this reasonable and well-balanced post, with which I agree whole-heartedly. Are you sure you're feeling alright?

Will it happen? I doubt it (because as others have pointed out, it'd just be a gift for Chinese MeaToo/MeeToo imitation devices, which would probably be crap (prove me wrong) and would drag what remains of Nokia's good name even further through the mud, even while eating away at Nokia's remaining market share in the sector.
I also get so dammm frustrated because of the way it goes on here so am not suprised i let off steam now and then.

When you approach any company to make a prototype, the contract that is struck up makes it your device but your never going to stop the guys in China from ripping apart everything they see as a potential earner, that is how they are there, so accepted situation.

Point is the software will belong to this community and that is the important bit, as for the hardware, it is now much easier than many realises to get manufactured and they have the capabilities of the latest components available at any time so to make a futuristic device is not too difficult.

The hard part of all this is getting together the funds to pay for all this and that is where the Community can get it's heads together.
