I realise, but iP2g was a looooong time ago in this industry.....
And it'd be mighty hard to attract many smartphone buyers (if any) given the competition, & how crowded the market is.

You need something truly compelling from the UI, right through to the kernel.
It's like turning around and saying:
Symbian + Qt didn't work, but we're going to use something that's a subset of Symbian + Qt, & that'll work.
Yes Qt's seeing huge improvements, but that isn't enough to compensate for S40, & thereby take-on iOS/Android/WP once again.

But it's definitely a great move to consolidate their hold on the featurephone market.
So long the demographics they're targeting, don't start paying extra for smartphones, if pricing comes down enough.

If they want to advance their smartphone stock using Qt, why not go as hard with MeeGo*, as they are with WP?
Sigh, then again this is "Nokia logic" we're dealing with, & maybe part of the agreement w/MS explicitly prevents that?

Incidentally I just came across this...

Not sure if it's entirely accurate, but interesting read nonetheless.
Adds to the depression too....
