According to today's interim report, it seems that Nokia at least does not completely disquality the hope of "creating a
competitive smartphone platform" as an alternative to the "partnership with Microsoft".

A possible interpretation is that the primary goal of the partnership with Microsoft is to provide a safe approach... in case the Meego platform does not succeed in competing with IOS and Android.
