*edit* oopss...forgot to add the link:

Of course it's dropped meteorically in Google trends, look at all of Nokia's actions & subsequent media coverage.
If Nokia's approach had been different, then I dare-say Google trends wouldn't look half as bad.
But sadly that will forever remain a "if only", and we'll never know...
Another big factor is the ridiculously long time between announcement and availability.
Whether this is deliberate or incompetence I don't know, I suspect the latter or a combo.

Ergo himself conceded it may not have been the vkb, but the fact that he only used it for 5-10min.
It is slightly different in layout/size, plus I think he said the guy before him had less trouble.*
Did you ever chase-up the provisioning issue with lm like I suggested, I think that's his area IIRC?
Does the iPhone do it flawlessly out of the box, or with a commercial app?
What else are you unhappy about wrt Harmattan?

Not sure I agree with the buggy/crappy software history assertion, depends on usage scenario/s I guess.
Symbian UI has been 'crapola' for way too long, but there was many areas it was (& still is) arguably superior in.
Maemo also had many unique traits & i never found it to be "buggy", just **** when it came to online services & commercial apps.

*Also IIRC, earlier in this thread some N950 owners highlighted the functionality/performance of the vkb.
So if you didn't see that, you may want to back-track....
Of course it may not be as good as the vkb on the newer build that the N9 will use, but a good rough indicator.
