It doesn't. But once your fans, your marketing material and your community starts to tout how "open" you are, later to circle back and betray that notion, it makes it that much easier to poke fun at the hypocritical stance that the platform once had.

Pointing finger at Android saying it's not open, yet you're not open is like pointing fingers at a person for being a stoner while smoking medicinal marijuana yourself (hyperbole intended)

I want open software because it means that other entities could either fix it, workaround it, contribute to it after it's been dropped from popular support by a willing community, hacker, group or the curious.

Can't do that with closed software.
