OH and it seems that there's a limit to the number of killalls you can do to qtlockscreen, after you exceed that limit, qtlockscreen stops restarting and the ordinary hildon lockscreen comes up.
the number is 9, after 9 killalls in a row, process stops and you'll get the normal hildon lockscreen

when that happens, you just type in xterm

start qtlockscreen
and it starts again

and for the fonts, you only need to refresh the font cache after installing a new font, by doing

fc-cache -fv
root
/etc/init.d/maemo-launcher force-reload
