You should just be able to type root in Xterm. There have been a few times that hasn't worked for me though. Is that doesn't work, type sudo gainroot . I've never figured out why root doesn't work occasionally.

Edit : By the way, I was having the same problem and the script fixed it. Thanks to those who posted it originally.
